A French photographer that goes against the grains.
Our cities, our lives are bordered by walls, greenery, facades and sometimes water that leaves the imagination free. We can guess characters, stories, faces, fables.
Looking closely, in the same way JBL does, these paintings reveal above all the precariousness and fragility of our world and our certainties. They remind us that our daily life is woven with stories, sometimes laconic and sometimes flamboyant.
The artist’s eye caresses the walls and his photographs reveal what is beyond of reality. For example he captures asphalt, plaster, iron, wood, glass, water, fabric and living murmur.
JBL paints the strata of our walls and builds an imaginary archeology as if to tell us that we must know how to look at the ephemeral beauty of the world. Indeed he wants us to see the transparency of the walls and nature to remind ourselves who we are.
In conclusion, where you only see a wall, a piece of sidewalk, a window, Jean-Baptiste Lhomeau distinguishes the life that passes, the city that evolves and follows its own rhythm. The artist explains that the walls speak to him and attract him:
Jean-Baptiste Lhomeau
“I can see faces, abstract and very different forms, colors, multiple materials. It’s obvious to me. Sometimes it’s just a paint stain, I take a picture of it, and then I turn it around and find its truth.”
